I am always on the hunt for a new mineral sunscreen and I heard good things about the Tower 28 SunnyDays tinted sunscreen so I bought it during Black Friday. To my knowledge, Tower28 has 28% off at 2 points in the year: Black Friday and mid June. I started wearing this sunscreen during the spring till now and here are the key points:
- SPF 30
- 12.6% non-nano zinc oxide
- Tinted (comes in 17 shades)
- Satin-matte finish
- Application takes time to spread over the face
- Not water resistant
- 1 oz is $32
- Squeeze tube packaging
- Repurchased? No
This sunscreen has a thicker consistency akin to watered-down creamy peanut butter and when applied it initially leaves a smooth, satin finish. It feels a bit heavy on the face and is tacky to the touch. This sunscreen has medium coverage so getting a shade close to your skin color is important.
For reference, I consider my skin tone to be light-medium neutral with an olive cast. I have combination, sensitive, reactive, acne-prone skin. I got the shade 20 Mulholland which is a good shade match from Tower28’s shade quiz which I highly recommend you use!
By the end of the day, the sunscreen started to break down on my skin and clung extensively to any and all dry patches and crevices. This was a bizarre experience for me since none of the sunscreens I tried before had this particular issue. I have tried wearing this sunscreen in cold and warm weather and it wears slightly better in colder weather, but definitely not to the point where it looks good. On a positive note, this sunscreen did not break me out!
To remove the sunscreen, I use micellar water and usually I am able to use one soaked cotton pad which is enough to remove sunscreen from my face and neck. Removing this sunscreen though has an odd sensation where the cotton pad glides across the skin collecting large swaths of pigment on the pad. I need to go over my face and neck with another cotton pad to fully remove the sunscreen. Please note that I prefer just using a tinted sunscreen for my face and I don’t go in with makeup after and the SunnyDays suncreen is definitely more pigmented than my normal tinted sunscreen so it stands to reason that I would need to use more cotton pads to remove it.
Overall, I would not recommend this sunscreen because of how it wears throughout the day. Additionally for the price of the sunscreen, the 1oz amount is much smaller than the typical 1.7oz sunscreen size making it a more expensive replacement to my current favorite sunscreen.
