When I started my first full-time job, I knew that I wanted to give back and donate to causes that I felt strongly towards. But the question arose, how do I know that my donation is going to benefit the people I want to help? At that point, I had heard stories about CEOs of charity organizations taking up most of the donations for their personal use and after factoring in the cost of business operations and miscellaneous expenses, a very small percentage of the funds actually made it to the intended people or cause.
This made me apprehensive about donating. Not because I did not want to, but because I was hesitant about how to assess the many charities and non-profit organizations out there. I learned about https://www.charitynavigator.org/ which helps to evaluate these businesses through a variety of factors. Most importantly, it is a valuable resource for people like me who want to reduce the possibility of donating to a sketchy organization and be reassured that the money given will reach and benefit the intended audience.
