I wish I knew this years ago, so thought I’d share! If you have expensive products in a squeeze tube, you could be discarding it too early. I’ve been in the situation where I’m shaking the tube and squeezing as hard as possible to eek out the remaining bits of product. I thought I was doing the best I could until I tried out this hack.
Take a pair of scissors and cut horizontally midway across the tube. This way you have easy access to the contents inside and you can use the top half as a lid! When I first started doing this, I was sure that I would not find much left, but there is so much product inside despite my prior attempts to squeeze and shake! For example, I use this technique on my sunscreen tube and I’m able to get an extra 2 weeks worth of product out of the bottle. Face sunscreens that apply well are expensive so this is a great way to get the most out of your money. Here’s a list of recommended mineral sunscreens I’ve tried out and compared price points and product amounts.
To get the lid on, I squeeze the bottom half slightly inwards creating a small indent and the top half can slide easily on. Make sure to scoop out the product from the top half first otherwise it will transfer down to the outside of the bottom half of the tube when it slides on top. For the visually inclined, this is how my sunscreen tube looks:

Another option I’ve seen trending online, but have not tried myself is this device where you feed the end of the tube into the clamp and wind up the turnkey so that it creates crimp marks pushing the product down the tube. I think the only concern I have with this is getting to the end of the tube where the flip cap is. I’m not sure how easily all the product will dispense from that point onward. But it is worth a try if the above method does not appeal to you!
