I had this movie on my movie list and sat down to watch it thinking that it was a mystery movie based on the premise. And it was! Just not in the murder-mystery-who-dun-it kind of way, but more of the what-in-the-world kind of movie is this?!
The Menu is a thought-provoking movie that takes you along for a ride into the unknown as it unfolds from an upscale, exclusive restaurant experience into something more. Without giving too much away, it reminds me of the movie Old with a similar set up where both the main characters and audience expecting one thing, but get something completely different in return.
This is definitely a movie to watch with others because the twists and turns are surprising and shocking enough that there’s an urge to turn towards others and discuss what just happened. Even though the movie is classified as horror/comedy, the scenes that would fall under the horror category are nothing that deviates from violent, graphic scenes in action movies for example. The comedy tag on the other hand? Well, let’s just say it’s not my type of humor, but I can see how some aspects could be interpreted as funny.
