Two years ago, I learned about hypochlorous acid and ever since then I have used it for so many purposes and highly recommend others look into benefiting from its use as well!
Hypochlorous acid is a naturally occurring substance produced in the body by white blood cells to treat infections. It has a slight chlorine pool odor that dissipates quickly once sprayed. It turns into a salt water solution over time making it a very effective, non-toxic cleaner for around the house on nonporous surfaces.
This disinfectant can also be used for other purposes, namely skincare. People have sung its praises as a face spray to keep acne at bay since it is a disinfectant. I personally have not had much luck with this. All I can say is that it did not make things worse or better so in the end I stopped incorporating it into my skincare routine. However, with all the positive reviews, it may be worth a shot for you!
Personally, I have used hypochlorous acid as a way to treat oncoming styes (painful bacterial infections on the eyelids) as well as cuts, rashes, and scrapes. Spritz the problem area as soon as you spot the issue and watch with amazement the reduced healing time!
Where to purchase?
- Tower28 Beauty sells a hypochlorous acid spray as part of their SOS skincare line
- Amazon offers a bunch of listings. I have bought from the SkinSmart brand which also has other brand variants such as CleanSmart which offers the same product in different packaging at a better price point.
- Also consider purchasing your own hypochlorous acid maker if you find that your usage would be more cost effective to make at home rather than frequently purchasing pre-made hypochlorous acid. To make hypochlorous acid, it involves a bit of salt, water and electrolysis.
