Face-Drying Culprit

Take a look at your laundry technique! If you are tossing dryer sheets in with your towels, then not only does that hamper towel absorbancy, but it also leaves residue on the towels. And if you’re taking those towels and patting your face dry with them, then that can aggravate your skin and be a culprit for acne. Also consider that most dryer sheets have added fragrance which is another common skin irritant.

How Often Do You Touch Your Face?

This is unconscious behavior that needs to be checked. You are very likely touching many surfaces and objects throughout the day which have not been cleaned or have been touched by other people compounding the number of germs. And then if you proceed to touch your face, you’re introducing new bacteria and dirt which can be a recipe for more acne or even worse acne popping up in new areas. If you’re dealing with persistent acne issues, take note of when you touch your face and how much. Ideally, only touch your face after you have washed your hands with soap and water.

Your Hair While Sleeping

Tossing and turning throughout the night is one thing, but if your hair is strewn across your pillow as you shift positions, then your face may come into contact with your hair. Now if you don’t wash your hair every day, then the buildup of oil, dirt, etc can transfer to your face unknowingly becoming a possible acne cause. Consider keeping your hair tied up and out of your face or maybe try a hair bonnet!

When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Phone?

And I don’t mean the files, apps, and contacts! I mean sanitizing your phone surfaces. I like to do this on a weekly basis but I recommend every time you go out and return home, give your phone a good wipe down to reduce the number of new germs brought in. You likely reach for your phone often and not cleaning your phone can create a toxic cycle between stressing out over acne and unknowingly making the situation worse.

Is Your Face Cleanser Right For You?

I’ve tried out many face cleansers to help with my acne and there were many unfortunate duds. One of the clearest ways to tell if your face is not vibing well with a cleanser is by noticing how tight your face feels after using the cleanser. If your skin is left feeling noticeably tight and shiny, then this cleanser is too stripping and you need to go with something gentler.
